Corporate Coaches And Executive Coaches Help To Develop The Minds Necessary For 21st Century
Corporate coaches and executive coaches along with business coaches help to develop the minds necessary to deal with the change in the 21st century. With information doubling and probably soon to be tripling every year, today’s individual needs to have a:
- Disciplined mind
- Synthesizing mind
- Creating mind
- Respectful mind
- Ethical mind
Howard Gardner recently described these 5 minds in his latest book Five Minds for the Future. These minds work with his theory of multiple intelligences. In 1983, Gardner listed 8 intelligence strengths or smarts that are inherent within human beings.
- Word smart - linguistics
- Picture smart - spatial
- Body smart - kinesthetic
- People smart – interpersonal
- Number or Reasoning Smart – logical-mathematical
- Music smart – musical
- Self smart – intrapersonal
- Nature smart – naturalist
When coaches help individuals to challenge what they currently know in the ongoing efforts to reach that next level of success, these individuals are actually developing the 5 minds as described by Gardner. For without these 5 attributes, will any individual be successful in the fast pace world of the 21st century where the pace is increasing every day?
For example, discipline is necessary to keep the focus and moving forward. As individuals move forward, they must be able to quickly synthesize all the information they are receiving. Coaches assist in this process by asking necessary questions.
Creativity is always valued and even more so today. Coaches challenge the conventional or traditional way of doing something.
With diversity now an established fact (it was always there, but not necessarily accepted), coaches demonstrate respect for their clients. From this respect, the clients also develop greater respect.
Finally, effective coaches are all about helping individuals stay true to their integrity especially when commitments are made and not honored. Ethics is a strong component of any valued coaching process.
When these 5 minds work are developed by a corporate coach, executive coach or business coach who also understands the multiple intelligences, the only way is up for the client as well as for the coach. As the old song goes, up, up and away.
