So you find out your teenager is sexually active. What do you do?

Although I taught abstinence and the “sex is for adults” to them from when they were old enough to understand, both of my children became sexually active before they were 18.

My son didn’t tell me; I found out through his sister whose friend he was dating. She told my daughter, my daughter told me. I told my son never to go out without a raincoat. End of story. He already knew this from health class in high school.

Fishnet stockings are hot and they evoke different memories and reactions from different people. For myself, I can vividly remember the music videos of Madonna dancing and crawling around in next to nothing and wearing the sexy fishnet stockings. One video I remember in particular was where she was pretending to be an exotic dancer in a peep show!

These days we see the younger generation that is into the gothic and punk movements wearing the black fishnet stockings along with the rest of their black wardrobe and black makeup. Personally, I think that is the only time I have seen fishnet stockings that didn’t look sexy. The stark white faces with makeup that makes someone look dead or like a vampire just doesn’t do it for me.

My beloved grandmother was content to sit on a porch for hours engaged in storytelling, while I struggled to remain still long enough to listen. Deeply aware of the special gift of her healthy and vibrant presence in my life, I promised myself to spend more time with her, listen more attentively, and put my own agenda aside in order to enjoy her company. Caught up in the rhythm of daily life and the intricacies of my youthful self-absorption, romantic woes, building a business and searching for Mr. Right, the years flew by and grandma’s body began to break down.
