Guanaja Honduras is a stunning tropical gem. A small island, only three by eleven miles, it is located in the Bay Islands off the northern coast of Honduras. When I was growing up in the Pacific Northwest, little did I know that someday I would be opening my eyes to a sunrise in Guanaja!

So we are here, my husband, our little Maltese dog and me. We came down to visit this Central American beauty for our birthday celebrations, only two days apart.

Miami International Airport is just 15km west of central Miami. To get there from downtown Miami follow the I-95 north to SR836 West, taking the exit at LeJeune Road northbound (NW 42 Avenue). From the north you need to take the I-95 south to SR112, continuing to the slip road to the airport. From the southwest take the SR826 north and exit at LeJeune Road northbound (NW 42 Avenue).

Preparing for outdoor vacations requires some forethought as far as items you will need. If hiking is on your itinerary, selecting a good pair of boots is a worthwhile investment. I recently drove from the South to the Midwest and back again. It has been quite a while since I’ve driven a long distance (about 1,000 miles each way) and it caused me to remember why I don’t like to take such trips anymore. We all have our own little idiosyncrasies for driving; for example, older people tend to move more slowly and cautiously than younger people who race pell-mell down the highway; and people tend to drive according to the customs of the geographical region they come from regardless where they currently are. Nonetheless, I have assembled a “Top 10″ list of the basic driving habits that really irritates me and, if corrected, would make driving a lot more bearable for all of us. There is nothing earth-shattering here, just some observations on common driving deficiencies:

1. Timeshares are not a good financial investment, regardless of what a timeshare sales rep tells you. If you buy from a developer, you are paying all their marketing expenses and the resale value of most timeshares is less than half of what they are sold for by most developers.
